Frequently Asked Questions
If there isn't a contract, there has to be some hidden catch.
With Diningverse, you are in control. We're pretty confident that once you see how easy it is to manage your online profile, you'll realize that we don't need to lock you into a contract. In fact, we hope you'll like Diningverse enough to recommend it to other independent restaurant owners looking for an affordable way to market their restaurant on the Internet.
When I sign up, what will be my Diningverse profile web address?
Diningverse is about simplicity. If your restaurant is called Rosa's Legacy, you can choose something like diningverse.com/RosasLegacy. Pretty easy to remember, huh? We think your patrons will agree. Sign up now, before your name is taken by someone else!
I already have a domain name registered. Can I use it with a Diningverse profile?
Yes. Most major domain registrars (such as GoDaddy, Network Solutions or Register.com) allow you to assign 'domain forwarding' to your domains. This makes it easy to forward your restaurant's existing domain name directly to your diningverse restaurant profile. More detailed information about this can be found in your registrar's site.
What does a Diningverse full restaurant profile look like in action?
You can see an example of a full restaurant profile at diningverse.com/bayfrontgrille. In fact, just browse some of the local areas and look through the full diningverse profiles (these are the ones with blue links and green recommendations, the grey ones are basic restaurant profiles).
Do I need to know how to code websites?
Not at all. Anyone with basic computer skills should be able to build a website here quickly and without a hassle. Just enter your information into some text fields and diningverse does the rest. It's as easy as writing an e-mail message!
Does Diningverse require any special software?
No downloads are necessary because all of our software is online. All you need is a browser (you're using one right now!) and a reliable Internet connection.
Will my Diningverse profile be search engine optimized?
Yes. In fact, it will be more than that! Your Diningverse restaurant profile will benefit from the size and content within the entire dining universe at diningverse.com. Having a diningverse restaurant profile is far superior to having a stand-alone website. It enables you to compete with the chain restaurants and their marketing budgets using the power of thousands of Diningverse profiles maintained by independent restaurant owners.
Is Diningverse a restaurant directory?
Sort of. Actually, Diningverse is MUCH MORE than the usual restaurant directory. On Diningverse visitors will find detailed information about the best local restaurants including Menus, Specials, Photo Galleries and more. Best of all, Diningverse patrons can keep track of the restaurants their friends recommend and vice-versa.
Why are some restaurants not listed?
When deciding how to populate Diningverse, we chose to let our patrons suggest and recommend their favorite restaurants, after all, they are the end users. So Diningverse is literally being populated by the Diningverse community.
Why don't you list chain restaurants?
Chain restaurants (franchises) typically have their own marketing departments or spend considerable coin on external marketing agencies. Independent restaurant owners generally do not have the marketing dollars to dedicate to this. We believe the deciding factor for online exposure should be the quality of the food and service rather than the online marketing budget.
What if my restaurant has more than one location?
Restaurants are listed by area. For navigation purposes, each location must have its own Diningverse profile.
Why are there no negative comments about the restaurants?
Patrons are asked to direct negative comments to the owner/manager using the contact area of the restaurant profile. The restaurant owner then has an opportunity to resolve an issue directly with the patron. Diningverse patrons use the site to find local dining gems. If you were looking for a place to dine, you wouldn't ask someone where they've had their worst experiences. The best restaurants get the most recommendations and that floats them to the top of the Diningverse listing.
What happens if a patron posts something derogatory or inappropriate?
Patrons have to follow the Diningverse posting rules. These rules address posting inappropriate comments and explain the process of handling these to the patrons. If a patron fails to follow these rules, contact us, we'll determine if intervention is necessary and what the next course of action is:
- The offending recommendation may be removed from the site immediately.
- The patron may be contacted privately and asked to edit or remove the recommendation (or part of it) immediately.
- The patron may be banned from diningverse immediately without any warning.
I like the idea of Diningverse but I don't have time for this.
The initial set up is really quite simple. In fact, the most time consuming part may be entering your menu items and you can do that in sections at your convenience. What separates your Diningverse profile from a 'stand alone' site, is how quick and easy you can make changes yourself, anytime.
Some restaurant owners/managers designate a trusted employee or their advertising partner to do this for them.
I already have a website that someone is managing for me. Why should I switch to (or add) Diningverse?
You likely have a 'stand alone' website. Unless someone knows the exact web address, finding it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. In addition, you don't have the flexibility to make periodic changes to keep your site fresh and engaging. In today's market, it is no longer enough to have 'a website'. The information needs to be updated frequently and it needs to be used to speak to your current and potential customers.
How did you come up with the idea of Diningverse?
We believe that every restaurant should be able to have a good website and that the deciding factor for online exposure should be the quality of the food and service rather than the online marketing budget.
